3 month hiatus

Wahoo! I’m baaaaack! Hi readers, so glad to be here with you today. I am so sorry that I’ve been away for so long. My confession: I gave up! OMG, like how many of us do this? I’m so tired of giving up. It’s like our buddy Shia LeBeouf said, “if you’re tired of starting over, stop giving up!”

I got tired. I got tired of working and working, and yielding no results. I kept up with my PPC campaigns. I make pretty good money there, but I gave up on blogging. I made this goal in my first year, that I would write 100 blogs. I did this so that I can boost the seo on my website. We all know the trick is to drive traffic. Without traffic, there’s no mula.

seoSeo is HUGE! Though my mentor Kyle, co-owner of Wealthy Affiliate, inspired me with the words, “you are an Seo Analyst”. I still was not confident. I couldn’t get not one of those 100 blogs on the first page of Google. The closest I got was like the bottom of page 2 or 3. No one is making a $1 by doing that.

That was a conversation that I was having with Kyle, when I was on the verge of spending $100/hr with an SEO Analyst to try and figure out what was wrong with my website. Kyle then told me, I probably know more than him! He’s probably telling the truth. I learned a lot from Kyle, and he has been in the business over a dozen years. That’s 10-15 years of wisdom in internet marketing that he is transferring over to me; and any or every member at Wealthy Affiliate.

I gave up. Plain and simple. No doubt about it. I can’t believe it though. I did it again! I told myself that I wouldn’t. How many of us have done that? I really was certain that I would continue working on my business until it was successful. People should follow my mentor Kyle. He is someone to really gain some perspective from. All the years of wisdom on the internet, he shares some pretty insightful things. I love reading his blogs. They make so much sense in this business.

statistics chartThree months of no blogging. I was done. I didn’t want to come back either. I was tired of all that commitment and hard work going unnoticed. Then, all of sudden, BANG! I get traffic. Now it’s nothing to boast about. It’s probably around 50-100 visitors a month, but hey it’s a start. I was on my statistics page at Wealthy Affiliate when I noticed the spike in traffic. I hurried over to Google Webmaster Tools and logged in. The proof was in the pudding.

I had over 50 keywords ranking on Page 1 of Google. Man, this was a miracle for me. I was so excited, I told my wife I’m getting back to blogging. I even went and invested some of my earnings from my website into a brand new laptop. It’s pretty cool, an Acer Chromebook. I got this crazy deal on Cyber Monday for a little less than 50% off. Here I am writing this blog off my new laptop. 🙂

I’m a proud business owner of my little online business. I’m thankful to my visitors who ignited the flame I had in the beginning. I was determined to make it in the beginning. I don’t know why I lost that flame. Results are a major factor. If I had to evaluate myself I would say I fell off a little. I focused on the money and that was a mistake. Some wise words I heard in the past were focus on the opportunity.

home officeInternet marketing gives you the opportunity to work from home, and that is what I want. I want to be able to make my own schedule, bring in a decent income, and help others do the same.

We’re gonna make it. Here is too another year of blogging and 100 more blogs. Ooh, let’s see if I can break that record. Wish me luck, as I’ll do the same for you.

Continuation…

I learned a valuable lesson through this hardship. Don’t ever give up. I made a good decision a couple of years ago and joined one of the #1 rated internet programs on the internet, Wealthy Affiliate. I learned so much. I was a boost of energy during and throughout the training. There was so much to learn there. There are so many successful people on the network sharing their successes, and others sharing daily motivation.

We have to stay positive. Keep on working, and wait for your time to shine. Keep doing what has been proven and it will happen for you.

Now what?

I will keep working at it. I will pick up where I left off, try and put in some extra effort, and keep my focus on the opportunity.

Have you ever took this kind of hiatus? Let me know about it in the comments below. Feel free to share it. I would love to hear about it, and you could help many others as well.

Thank you for reading,

  1. What a great read! I find myself on the brink of stopping as well. I have been working on a new wellness blog and just can not seem to gain any traction.

It certainly makes me feel as though I am on the wrong path, or I am doing something way wrong.

Do you have any advice on how to break that mindset? How long should it take to start getting some traffic from the search engines?

    thanks for the article!

    1. Hey buddy, hang in there. With the training at Wealthy Affiliate, I can vouch for it; it works! Don’t give up. Just keep working. Remember this is a business and you have got to keep working at it. Don’t stop. Do more, if possible. Keep reaching out, networking, creating content, you cannot lose! It takes time. I know, but don’t doubt it, it works. Reach out to the owners or someone knowledgeable at WA for support. Everyone is usually willing to help.

Unfortunately there is no timeline brother. I wish I could tell you there was. Think about it like this. Can anyone tell you how much you can make and how fast you will make it with any business out there that exists? It’s nearly impossible. But you can decide to never give up. And keep going hard until you succeed. I believe brother, and you should believe in yourself too!

  2. Hey Jonathan:

Welcome back. Sometimes we all need to break away from trying-trying-trying. When it all feels like trudging along on a treadmill, it can be a good thing to stop, catch a breath and figure out what the heck you are doing.

It’s not quitting when you take a break for sanity’s sake. If you come back refreshed, with new ideas and new directions, it’s all good!

    1. Hey thanks Netta! That means a lot. At times it felt like I was running on a treadmill. They beautiful of the whole Hiatus was that I came back because over 100 of my keywords hit the 1st page of Google! You can imagine my excitement. I am refreshed, energized, and ready for more. 🙂
