So there is a lot of talk about how long a blog post should be. I too asked how long my blog post should be, and this is what I’ve found after hours of research. There are several points of views and opinions, but you want to know what works right? Don’t believe what people may think that shorter is better and that a reader loses interest after a few hundred words. That is incorrect! Readers like to READ! What they do not like is boring content. You want to keep your reader engaged.
How do you do that?
Now a days people read blogs because they want to hear from real people. They can respect and appreciate a real person’s perspective. If they wanted technical terms and scientific terms they would go to an encyclopedia or a dictionary. People want real, and that’s what you must deliver! By speaking to your reader in a casual tone you can capture their attention. Don’t be afraid to throw in your opinions too. This will keep your reader engaged.
So how long should a blog post be?
If you are looking to make the top spots in seo, or search engine optimization, you want to aim for 2500 words. Okay I know that sometimes this may be close to impossible, but realize that I said, aim. Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still end up among the stars! It’s okay if you only reach 1000-1500, don’t worry too much because search engines like Google are still looking for quality content and they know when you have it.
How do they know?
As you may have heard Google and the other search engines have many algorithms that they use to find quality content to provide for their users. After all, you probably wouldn’t use certain search engines if they only pulled up nonsense information. Everyone, the majority, appreciates when they can find what they’re looking for on the first page. Also, as we all know, this is our goal because most users do not go past the first page when looking for something.
Did you know that comments on your website or posts also count as word count? This is a major contribution to seo and as well as word count. It contributes to your search engine optimization because the search engines find that when readers leave a comment on your webpage this means that the quality and readability are there. Sure enough, you shall make it to the first pages because Google and other search engines also want active websites. They know that by people commenting on your site you are providing quality because readers are engaged. This leads them to give you those top spots and first pages.
Quick tip: search engines also look for social shares so make sure you are sharing your content on all of your favorite social networks and also asking others to share too. You can do this by adding a plug-in if you haven’t done so already.
Need help getting to those 2500 words?
When I first started blogging this was difficult for me. Over time and a lot
of research I found the #1 technique that has enabled me to write longer blogs. Here it is, leave no stone unturned! This step alone has saved my blogging career when it comes to writing blogs aiming for 2500 words.
I remember when I first started I could barely get out 500 to 600 words. The trick is to leave no stone unturned. Talk about everything possible that is related to your content but of course making sense. Basically, you do not want to leave your reader with any questions. You want to deliver in full with every blog.
