How to Keyword Research – Get Results!

Keyword research has been a mystery until now. A bit of education goes a long way! We’ll go over how to find keywords, and how to use them. You will be a keyword pro!

How to find them?

First you’ll need a keyword research tool. I use the one at Wealthy Affiliate. Another one is called Jaaxy; offers a bit more luxury. They both offer free trials, no credit card required to enroll. Which is why I recommend them.

Understand the Terms
  • Keyword – phrase the user types in the search engine to find what they’re looking for.
  • Avg – average number of searches the keyword receives a month
  • Traffic – Visits to your website if you achieve first page ranking in the search engines
  • QSR – Quoted Search Results – number of competing websites ranked in Google for the exact keyword.
  • SEO – score based on traffic and competition, the higher the score, the more likely you will rank for this keyword on the first page.

Example 1

We’re going to research the keyword ‘usb headphones’. For illustration purposes I’m going to use Jaaxy.

Look at ‘usb headphones’. The Avg and Traffic are high, but so is the QSR (the competition). Ideally, you want your competition to be no more than 250. I would go with the keyword ‘usb headphones microphone’, because there are only 114 competing websites. You are more likely to rank on the first page of Google like this.

It’s no good having a high traffic keyword, and ranking on Page 3 of Google because of the competition. No one gets past the first two pages in Google! Find a keyword that has at least 50 or more for Traffic. It’s better to have 50 people coming to your website than none because of the competition.

Example 2

Lets research the keyword ‘logitech h390’, because I have a pair! They’re usb headphones.

See ‘logitech h390’ by itself has high traffic, but it also has a high QSR. Look down below at ‘logitec
h clearchat comfort usb headset h390 black’, this one is winner! Look at that traffic, and the QSR is so low. This keyword will get you all the traffic
because you’ll end up on the first page.

Keywords aren’t everything though. Google Search is pretty sophisticated. You should have quality content too. Altogether, using the right keywords will help you achieve first page rankings.

Why was ‘logitech clearchat comfort usb headset h390 black’ a gold mine of a keyword?

It explains the buyers cycle. When customers are looking for a set of ‘usb headphones’, that’s the first thing they search. Once they find the specific headphones they want (‘logitech clearchat comfort usb headset h390 black’). That’s when they will search them specifically, and then end up purchasing them.

You’ll find being more specific in your content will allow you to achieve maximal results. The more broad the topic, the more difficult it is achieve these results. If you narrow down topic a bit, and not be too broad you’re better off.

Using your keywords in the right places is very important. Just don’t dump them all over the place. Google has gotten more sophisticated when it comes to this, and cracking down on offenders. After all, it’s supposed to be all about the reader!

Google wants to assure that its providing quality results for its users. The best places to put your keywords are:

  • Meta Title
  • Meta Description
  • In the Post/Page Title
  • 1x in the body (first paragraph)
  • Alt tags (images)

Words of Wisdom

how to keyword researchBefore writing your content find the keyword you want to use. Then base your writing on it. Don’t use the keyword more than mentioned above, but revolve your
writing around it.

Your article will rank for many other keywords just from doing that. You don’t even have to think about it; just concentrate on creating quality content for your reader.
