I’m going to teach you everything I know about how to SEO your blog. This is really simple and I will go through all the steps for you. All you have to do is wash and repeat every time and you should have your blogs reach the first page of the search engine. Truth is our website is nothing without search engine optimization. Let’s get started!
There are five steps to include within each blog post on your blog, and they are:
- Keywords
- Interlinking your content
- Engagement/Comments
- Sharing on Social Media
- Creating Videos
1) How to Use Your Keywords
There are a few places you want to input the keywords and then just write naturally. You’ll be surprised, you’ll rank for keywords you didn’t even intend to. You want to make sure you input the keyword in the following places:
Title
Meta-Title
Meta-Description
Alt Text in your images
Somewhere in your first paragraph
Most importantly make sure your keyword makes sense. Google is constantly making changes to how they rank web pages and you don’t want to lose because you did not do this properly.
Example: I wrote a blog post, how to build a website for free, but the real keyword phrase which I was aiming for was ‘build website free’.
Could you imagine if I would’ve titled my blog post ‘Build Website Free’? Not only does it not make sense, but it looks silly. Don’t follow what many people do in trying to targeting their keywords this way. Plus remember, you will end up ranking for other keywords for which you did not intend too.
If you need help in how to keyword research, you can read this blog here.
2) Interlink Your Content
Interlinking is big, and probably the easiest thing you can do to seo your blog. It’s really simple, just link your content from one page to another. You can do this now. Just go through your blog pages and interlink word phrases to other pages. For example, every time I use the words ‘build a website’, I interlink that word phrase on that page to that specific page in which I talk about how easy it is to build a website.
Having trouble coming up with blog posts/writing ideas? This is an excellent way to inspire you to write more blog pages. For example, the next page I write about will be about PPC Marketing because I use this word phrase occasionally. When I do publish this page, I will interlink that word phrase on any other page, back to that particular page.
3) Engagement With Comments
In every blog post you want to invite your readers to comment on your website. This is very important and very helpful. Now you ask, how in the world do I get comments on my website? There is a website that can help you accomplish this. It’s called Wealthy Affiliate. You do need to have the paid subscription to utilize this tool, but if you’re serious about your internet business this may be well worth the subscription fee.
I actually pay the yearly fee because there is a steep discount in doing so. There are tons of other training and tools on this website such as step by step training on how to make money online, keyword tools, live chat support, and private messaging. Not to mention you can build up to 50 websites and it includes hosting, backup, security, and 24/7 tech support.
Also, you want to have quality comments on your website. Those short comments are not good, you want at least 50 words per comment. These type of comments really help you with your seo on your blog. Needless to say, relevance as well. You don’t want nonsense comments on your website. You will be surprised how powerful this one thing is for your blog and seo.
4) Hit the Share Button
Google, and I’ll just talk about this search engine at the moment, because it accounts for 70% of all internet traffic. It looks to see if people are finding your content so helpful that they are deciding to share it with their friends on social media. There are plugins that you can add to your blog to add this feature. I currently use SumoMe.
Every time you publish a blog post go ahead and share it with all of your social media accounts. This is very important, so don’t let one blog post go by without sharing it. Another thing, when you share it on your social media platforms include the keyword phrase you are targeting within the description. Finally, seek engagement on the social media post as well. You can do this by asking a simple question such as “what are your thoughts on this?” or, “tell me what you think in the comments.”
5) Start Shooting Videos!
If you haven’t done so already you must leverage this tool. Google loves videos. As a matter of fact, Google owns Youtube (since 2006). Videos have such a powerful effect on seo.
You have to download some software on your computer to create the videos. Some people use Screencast O’Matic, but I use a free software called CamStudio. Allow me to add, you get what you pay for! Then you upload the videos to Youtube, edit them, write your description including the keyword, and publish them.
Before you create a video, check the serps to see if it already is ranking a video on the first page. The keyword tool I use at Jaaxy has a Search Analysis tool that does this for me. Then you need to make a decision whether you want to publish a video or not if it already does. Usually Google only posts one video on the first page, so it will be very competitive to accomplish this (if it has one already). Personally, I would probably skip that content creation and create a video for something else. This is definitely a good habit to get into; creating videos for all of your content.
There you have it folks, your seo in a box. I learned these from internet marketing experts at Wealthy Affiliate. These are veterans in the game, I’m talking about guys who’ve been in this business for 11-12 years; as of writing this. If there is any clarification I can offer with how to seo your blog, or if you have any other questions, or just want to add tips

I was just looking into some SEO for dummies via youtube and I came across your site! 🙂 Thank you! These are very helpful step-by-step process in doing SEO on your own blog. I always get carried away in creating content that I oversee the importance of SEO on ones site/blog. I’ll definitely incorporate the information you’ve provided here! Thank you so much! 🙂
I wish keywords didn’t exist, or at least the usage of specific keywords or phrases. I like to write and help people naturally. I can’t help but stress sometimes when trying to find keywords or using them properly. I guess Google needs to use some type of method to help its users.
Overall, I’ve got to say that keywords on not that important after you use them the way I demonstrated in this blog. Writing naturally and spilling your content on the page is the best practice. Then, to mention video creation, it’s only natural, when you think about where people and technology are heading. People love to stream and watch videos.
Anything that makes it simpler! Graphics are fun to create too and that can be another beast as well. As far as making them to large and/or optimizing them. Lastly, I’ll mention the social networks. I hate social networks! Although it can be quite the entertainment. We do need to use it to reach more people though which is the name of the game.
Good luck to you,
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for the tips for writing an SEO blog. I do have a question about placing keywords in the image alt tag.
Should I put the keyword in the alt tag for every image that I include in my pages or posts? Seems like that would be keyword stuffing if all my images have the same keyword.
Also, is CamStudio a free tool for creating videos? Would you recommend that for someone just starting out.
Thanks for the great information.
Verna
Hi Verna,
You pose a valid concern. I recently started learning more about seo and sharpening my skills. I found that this would actually be keyword stuffing, so we have to use alt tag in moderation. Also, use them appropriately. Too Google, we can look like we’re spamming people. I have found that the best practice is to do good keyword research, and utilize several different but relevant keywords within the alt tags. When an image does not call for it, simply leave it blank. If I can clarify anymore on this subject just ask.
I use CamStudio becuase it is free and easy to use. I would definitely recommend it to anyone starting out. As you know, while starting out we strive to minimize the out of pocket expenses. Which is not surprising becuase we are unsure of a specific business opportunity. Once making some good money, we can start to explore different paid tools.
Hope this helps,
Jonathan
