Where to Start in Internet Marketing?

where to start in internet marketing trainingI have a confession to make. I have been in internet marketing for over 3 years, but for the past year I have hung it up. I wondered if I got a bad start. You see, where I started was at a place called Wealthy Affiliate. I spent a pretty penny for over a year and half, and then made it to a stand still.

I thought I had spent too much money. All I wanted to do was learn internet marketing. Since I had already learned it, I decided to leave; after my second year with WA.

It was rough at first. I did not know where to start. I signed up with a hosting company called Bluehost, with close to little to no support from them. It was then I realized how great the support was at WA.

Still, I was determined to make it on my own. Once I went through the headache of getting my website moved, I started to write content. Then I realized, the tools for writing just weren’t there.

You see, WA has all the tools you need to create and manage your website. Since I was having a hard time, I gave up. Close to a year later, here I am.

The Turnaround…

I have been job to job since I was a teen, and the weather has not changed. Things are still the same. I started to wonder the other day, how am I going to make the amount of money that I really want?

What skills do I have? What can I do? Then I though about internet marketing. I couldn’t bring myself to go back to that rough patch I was at.

I decided to go back to WA. Sure I was saving a lot of money on my own. The ugly truth though, is that it is hard on your own. I guess that is why they always encourage you to embrace community.

I will tell you where they have a great community. You guessed it, Wealthy Affiliate. I knew I would get back to an huge community filled with like minded people, trying to get their start in internet marketing.

Why WA is So Good?

WA is so welcoming. As soon as you walk through the door, you feel the friendliness and welcome of the community. The owners, amazing, I have never met anyone who cares more than them.

They are really helpful. They can really help me with my business. I know that anytime I need to speak to a consultant in internet marketing, they are my go to. Not to mention, there are a lot of veteran internet marketers there too, that you can learn from.

I know that if I need business advice, they are my go to. They always get back to you too. You would think, in a place with millions of people using their services, you could not possibly have time to get back to your members. Not the case though, they overcome the impossible.

The Right Tools

You will soon come to learn how many tools you will need to succeed in internet marketing. Some may think it is simple, you just need hosting and a word processor. Not the case.

From my experience, you need a dependable website builder, reliable hosting, a good word processor, image design software, a keyword tool (A must; I struggled with this one on my own, pretty bad), finally feedback. I don’t know if you are like me, but I like to have reassurance from time to time.

WA has all of these things:

where to start in internet marketing

Website builder: this thing literally builds you a website in less than 30 seconds!

Word processor: a software tool called SiteContent (in which I wrote this blog post) that is very easy to use. It counts your words as you go, has all the typing tools integrated such as header tags, bold, italic, bullets, spell check, image designer, and it even can publish your post directly to your website! (very helpful)

Reliable hosting: I gotta tell you, you can find pretty good hosting elsewhere (I had Bluehost for about a year), but no one offers support like WA does. Any time I have had a problem, I did not have to jump through hoops to get them resolved, and the issues were solved rather quickly.

Image design software: it is really helpful to have all your tools in one place, and so when they integrated an image tool, I did not realize how helpful this was. The fact is the less places you have to go and outsource to different places, the more time you will save. Which who needs more of that? 🙂

On top of that, it can be a pain to find free images. You have to make sure you are not copywriting, or that the images are to free to use. WA does all the work for you, with over a million images.

Keyword Research Tool: when you get your start in internet marketing, you will learn that you absolutely need a reliable keyword tool. The truth of the matter is, you don’t want to write content without it. Or else, you would be shooting in the dark. Your content may never rank.

There are so many paid tools out there, and you can even find free ones (like Google Keyword Planner), but they are hard to use. I think that since the owners, Carson and Kyle over at WA, have been in internet marketing for over a decade they understand what it takes to have a powerful, useful, easy to use keyword tool, and they sure offer one, called Jaaxy

Feedback: from time to time, you want to know how you are doing. I do not recommend you go out in this on your own. There is so much information out there about internet marketing. It is hard to trust you are getting reliable information.

The training inside WA, ensures that you are getting trustworthy information. It is the most trustworthy that I have found over the years. Let’s face it folks, internet marketing is not rocket science, but you want to make sure you are getting the right information. Information that is going to be relevant, useful, and easy to apply. Am I right?

There is a feedback tool inside Wealthy Affiliate called SiteFeedback, and you can get some nice feedback any time you want. There is sort of a pay it forward system, but nonetheless, you can get real feedback from a real person, and that counts.

Essentially, you are getting feedback from the community members in WA. Though most of them are all newbies; they are real people, and sometime you just want to know, does my site look good, or what can I change.

As I mentioned earlier, you can always get feedback from the owners, which is pretty cool too. You know you can depend on them, 100%.

That’s All Folks!

There you have it. Whatever you are planning on doing, maybe getting your start in internet marketing for your current job or business, if you want to be your own boss, if you want to fulfill your dreams, or if you are just looking to learn something new, this is how you can surely get your start in internet marketing.

Do you know of any other places that offer internet marketing training? Or want to mention any failed attempts? I would love to hear about your experience in the comments. It truly will help others!

  1. Hi Jonathan. The first time I read about Wealthy Affiliate, I must confess I was skeptical about it. The tools, community and support was too good to be true. I have always known that it is easy to make it when you’re in a community of like-minded individuals sharing ideas that can really help moving forward. I am still amazed up till now. I am giving Wealthy Affiliate an opportunity to change my life. Let’s see how it goes for one complete year and of course I am ready for the challenges that are involved in it.

    • Vwegbah, I think from one year you will see major accomplishments within the internet marketing field. Remember, this is a business, it will be YOUR business. Don’t give up on it. You are right, with the tools and training at WA, you can do this.

I was skeptical at first too, but they have proved me wrong time and time again. I have been a member at WA for four years. I cannot imagine being anywhere else. They have helped me with my business whenever I have needed them, literally at my beck and call.

They have provided all the tools I needed under one roof. I will be forever grateful for everything from Wealthy Affiliate. They are reasonably priced, and have delivered on every promise.

  2. Hi, I recently came about and found your post. It is written well for your audience. Wealthy affiliate has given me the idea to build my own business while learning. I am working on my own website. And my website is starting to come up on google’s first page. All credit goes to the training and live video training at WA. What is your goal at wealthy affiliate?

    • Parveen, I think you have made a great choice to try and earn while you earn. WA shows you how to do that. I have been with Wealthy Affiliate for four years. I stopped paying the membership fee after six months. Since then, it has paid for itself.

My goal is to reach as many people as I can, and tell them about this awesome product, called Wealthy Affiliate. I searched online for a very long time before I finally came up with a legitimate product. Also, I want to teach the whole world how to work online.

Well, I guess not the whole world, as we still need doctors, mechanics, pilots, etc. However, anyone who is not satisfied with their job or life and wants needs way out. This is it! I can only hope that everyone would take advantage of the opportunity.

A lot of times, it is our own minds, which will not allow us to succeed. Making money online is real, people are doing it everyday. People have built sustainable, thriving businesses online. And anyone can have a piece of the pie.

You only have to have the ability to learn and apply what is taught. WA offers the best training and support out there.

  3. I have been there as well where I hit the stand still. I have been doing the internet marketing for only a year and I am starting to doubt myself. I have Amazon to blame for it (cancellation of my account). I know it is a rough start and it takes time to build business online but it doesn’t make it easy to deal with when I have other problems in my life. Luckily, I did not quit yet, it is just another hurdle that I have to overcome. Hopefully, I will do better next year. Good luck to you!

    • Aw Nuttanee, I thought I was the only one who experiences these hardships. I actually went through a stand still for a year and a half myself.

Sorry to hear about your account cancellation with Amazon? What happened? They cancelled my account too, but it was for good reason. I didn’t meet the deadlines. It’s okay, because I don’t really promote any products like that anyway.

Maybe in the future I will go ahead and try my hand on it again. I will make sure I am ready to start promoting products. Then I will make sure I have sufficient traffic before I join too. If you don’t have traffic, it doesn’t make sense too join. They only give you six months to make sales.

About the stand still, I just got frustrated with it. I finally realized, that this is a legitimate business we are running here. I think we all get the concept wrong at time sometimes. Think about it like a brick and mortar business:

      1) If you are not making sales, what are you going to do?

      2) If you are not getting traffic, what are you going to do?

      3) If your marketing is not working, …?

I think you get my drift. For some reason, in the online world, we just give up. I think because it is so easy to walk away. There is no a huge investment lost, besides our time.

With a brick and mortar business, you might have invested $10,000s. Online, you can start a business for as little as $0 down, and less than a cup of coffee a day.

I have put in so much into this website, that there is a much bigger investment that I am reluctant to lose. All those hours put in. So hard to just walk away.

We need to be determined to make it work. Just as we would a regular brick and mortar business. There is a lot at stake here. Our future.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!

      – Jonathan
